I am currently renting a home, how can I get the water bill in my name? A $150.00 deposit is required for a water bill to be put in a renter's name. The bill will remain in the owner's name if the deposit is not paid.

Why am I being charged for water when I have not had any usage?  A flat rate of $65.75 (water and sewer) is charged for meter fees (without any usage). Any water usage is billed in addition to these fees (per 1,000 gallons).

How often is the water/sewer service billed?  Water/sewer bills are sent out quarterly(every three months).

Am I being billed for current usage?  No. You are always billed in arrears. Please refer to the back of your water bill for the months you are being billed for.

Can I make a payment over the weekend or after hours?  Yes. There is a drop box in front of City Hall between the two drives. This box is checked daily, Monday through Friday.

Does everyone in the city receive their water billing at the same time?  NO. The city is divided into billing sections. You will not receive your bill at the same time as those in another section.

Who do I call for questions regarding my water/sewer billing?  City Hall - billing dept. is responsible for all of the billing for the City. If you have questions regarding your bill, please call 231-582-0335 or email info@boynecity.com

Is there a charge for getting my water turned off/on?  Yes. You will be charged $46.00 to have your water turned off and an additional $46.00 to turn it on. (After hours $73.15 each)

My meter hasn't been working for a while now, how am I being billed?  You are currently being estimated based on previous metered usage or the number of people in the household.

I am putting in an underground sprinkler system. Can I be billed separately for this?  Yes. You will need to arrange for a separate meter to be installed. Call 582-6656. Billing for sprinklers is done once a year.

Do I get credit for watering my lawn in the summer?  You will only be credited if the City has hydroseeded due to repairs.

Service

My water is discolored, what should I do?  It is probably due to a water repair or the flushing of hydrants. Run your cold water in the bath tub or faucets until it runs clear again. If the problem persists, contact City Hall at 582-6597.

What should I do if I have a Water/sewer emergency after business hours?  Call 582-6597. This will give instructions on how to page the on-call person. Remember to leave an address and phone number where you can be reached.

Who do I call for information on service hookups, water/sewer line locations, etc.?  You should call the Wastewater plant directly at 582-6656.

Why was my meter replaced when the old one was working fine?  The City has gone to a new type of meter that can be read with a wand and does not require entrance into the home. This meter is very accurate and virtually eliminates the possibility of human error for meter readings.

What is my responsibility as far as repair of water lines?  You are responsible for any repairs on your side of the street right-of-way.

I think my pipes are frozen, what should I do?  Call a plumber. The City's responsibility ends at the street right-of-way.

My pipes tend to freeze up in the winter. Can I be credited for letting my water drip?  NO. You will only receive credit if you are notified by the City to let your water drip. If you do not receive a letter, you will be billed.
