2021 City Commission Election(s):
Three City Commission seats are open for election / re-election in the November 2021 election.
(If more than six (6) valid petitions are received, the City will hold a primary election in August.)
Please see the following necessary documents and be sure to read and follow instructions carefully.
- Statement of Organization - Required
- Affidavit of Identity - Required
- State of Michigan City Election Deadlines/Dates - Petition must be filed with the City Clerk's office no later than April 20, 2021 by 4 p.m.
Petition forms may be obtained at City Hall from Jessica Puroll, Deputy City Clerk by calling 231-582-0341.
Petition signature requirements are per City Charter as follows: Sec 4.6. - Nominations.
The method of nominating of all candidates for the city elections shall be by petition. Such petition for each candidate shall be signed by not less than 20 nor more than 40 registered electors of the city. No person shall sign his name to a greater number of petitions for any one office than there are persons to be elected to said office at the following regular city election. Where the signature of any individual appears on more petitions than he is so permitted to sign, such signatures shall be counted only to the extent he is permitted to sign in the order of the respective dates and hour of filing the petitions containing such signatures.
